John F. Schuessler,MUFON

John F. Schuessler

Another Approach (to Studying UFOs)

Roy Norris

It seems to me that real progress could be made in determing the root cause of the UFO phenomenon through a different approach: amassing sufficient scientifically significant measurements to, once and for all, establish that many of the phenomena have characteristics that cannot be explained by conventional theory. R

Another Side to Researchers and Witnesses

Dennis Balthaser, 01/01/01

One of the most interesting things about doing this [UFO] research as I do it, is getting to know the other researchers or witnesses better and learning about their other interests or talents.

Conceptualizing UFOs

Richard H. Hall

Analyzing UFO data and reasoning about it has been extremely controversial due to a number of factors, primarily disagreement about which data are mutually agreed upon as requiring explanation. In this article I attempt to provide a conceptual framework and guide for thinking about and theorizing about UFOs.

Death of Ufology

Wendy Connors

Ufology is in a state of self denial. For most intents and purposes it appears to be a dead issue. Why is this? Because it is practiced by few and infiltrated by the many, who fail to realize the importance of the phenomena as a scientific endeavor worthy of respect and appreciation for its unique nomenclature of a mystery needing clear explanation. R

Detection and Identification Of Unidentified Flying Objects (UFO) Using Existing Technology PDFicon -

John F. Schuessler, MUFON

For the past fifty years, civilian UFO organizations have been collecting, categorizing and archiving UFO reports. By using proper investigative techniques they have amassed an incredible amount of information. A major portion of this database is drawn from eyewitness testimony, supplemented by films, videotapes, and electronic signal detection. The various U.S. Government projects (Grudge, Blue Book, et al) used the same techniques. As a result, political and scientific entities have casually dismissed the evidence as inconsequential. All the while, various agencies of the United States government and the governments of other countries were using all sorts of advanced technologies for Cold War purposes. For the most part, few of these advanced technologies were used to address the UFO issue. The purpose of this paper is to urge responsible governmental organizations to reassess their position and to allow all available technologies to be used to eliminate the UFO mystery.

Discrediting Witnesses and Researchers

Dennis Balthaser, 01/09/03

We have a major need in the Ufology community to clean up our own act, and I think we should do that by putting an end to the name calling and accusations being thrown around.

Historical Ufology

Dennis Balthaser, 09/09/99

Never before in the research of Ufology, has there been a more important time for obtaining the truth than today. With the explosion of technology we’ve seen in recent years, and anticipate in the future, it is more important than ever, that all information related to this subject be verifiable.

Searching For the Truth: Defending My Credibility

Dennis Balthaser, 5/01/02

I’d be the first to recognize that any information has to be verified and there are numerous ways of doing that, which would be considered ethical, honest and respectful. Unfortunately there are other ways also, which I have recently experienced. These include; not confronting me directly, questioning my credibility, or worse, ignoring questions I’ve asked and being selective in responding to those questions.

Stress – As in UFO Research…

Dennis Balthaser, 03/01/01

This type research is full of stress at times, but everyone deals with stress differently. Truth and honesty are to me, of utmost importance in keeping my sanity and being able to pursue the research that I have come to enjoy for the occasional benefits derived from it, without being stressed out in the process.

Stress Management for UFOlogists

John F. Schuessler, International Director, MUFON, May 2000

Since ufologists are human beings, they cannot expect to be stress free. In fact, they experience some unique forms of stress very much like that experienced by explorers, research scientists, and entrepreneurs. How can UFO organizations help their workers deal with stress? Are there some common sense steps available to ufologists for stress relief? This paper provides answers to these questions and more.

The Leadership Crisis in UFOlogy

Dr. Joseph Burkes

There are few leaders in the UFO/truth Movement, mostly celebrities. In the paper “Role of a Power Structure Analysis in Ufology” … I proposed the creation of a mass movement to work for disclosure. A campaign that hopefully will represent the interests of the majority of people on this planet, rather than those of elite groups primarily focused on defending hegemony by denying what appears to be an extra-terrestrial presence. The risks of creating such movements are numerous. Perhaps the most daunting is its susceptibility to co-optation by corrupt leaders – those who would eagerly use “the power of the people” for selfish purposes.  R

The MUFON Field Investigator’s Manual

MUFON has established a program to train member volunteers as Field Investigators. The heart and soul of this program is the MUFON Field Investigator’s Manual, now in a newly revized fourth edition. Contents and selected excerpts. Also, ordering information.

The Role of a Power Structure Analysis in Ufology

Joseph Burkes, MD

It is my assessment that ufology has failed to recognize the importance of how the Extraterrestrial presence profoundly threatens all terrestrial elites. This includes the international corporate, military, political and religious leaders of our planet. Without recognizing and thoroughly analyzing this challenge to terrestrial power, those interested in understanding the phenomenon of Extraterrestrial spacecraft visiting our planet, will be hopelessly confused.  R

UFO History – A Crisis Looms!

Barry Greenwood, UFO Historical Revue, #9 Feb. 2002

A vast majority of the record of UFOs exists on paper, with the remainder contained on audio and videotape, photographic film, electronic storage (computers), and in the memories of living witnesses and participants. The most fragile of these records of knowledge are the memories of people involved. Once people pass on, that record is lost forever. Even living, illness or age can change an individual memory record irreparably. This is unless one or more of the other media mentioned above preserves the recollections of those individuals.

Ufological Obstacles

Alfred Lehmberg

Is Ufology impeded? It doesn’t seem to go anywhere. I mean… it’s been stuck in neutral for the last fifty years for all the valiant attempts to steer it into the mainstream. What keeps ufology in a giggle-factor limbo? What banishes it to the realm of tabloid magazines? R

UFOlogy – Is there life after death?

Jenny Randles

The signs are not good. UFO sightings are less numerous than for many years. Close encounters seem to have been abducted or vanished into some parallel universe. Many longstanding groups and magazines are struggling, if they have not been abandoned already. UFO book authors are finding it next to impossible to persuade publishers that there is a viable market for what until recently was a steady stream of books (good, bad and indifferent). And there is an overall feeling of lethargy, if not apathy – perhaps a post Millennium blues caused by the psychological realisation that nothing spectacular happened, ET did not land and the world drifts on much as it ever has. R

Ufology for the New Millennium

Nick Pope

The summer months of 1997 saw ufology in the public eye to a greater extent than any time than I can remember. But despite all this exposure, was the cause of ufology actually advanced? Indeed, are we at all clear what we mean by ufology, and what its aims should be?

Understanding Witness’ Memory Loss

Dennis Balthaser, 11/01/00

As we grow older, several things in our physical and mental being start to change; sometimes without our knowledge, and sometimes obviously with it (as in our physical appearance). Memory loss is one of those changes that I have been studying for several months now as it relates to some of the witnesses of the Roswell Incident.

Whither UFOlogy?

Richard H. Hall, 2002

Primarily I suggest the organization of a National Public Fact-Finding Commission made up of prominent Americans who would hear presentations of the data over a period of time, and ultimately issue a report making recommendations. I discuss how such a Commission might be organized, how it would operate, and what it might be able to accomplish.
