🔍 Event details

In the 1950s, as UFO sightings rose sharply in the continental United States and at overseas military bases, the U.S. Air Force establisheda special task unit dedicated to intercepting UFOs. These special units were equipped with cameras, and their mission was to record footage when fighters intercepted UFOs.

According to some retired personnel, special units in the 1950s repeatedly succeeded in filming unidentified flying objects atclose range. These missions were usually highly classified, and the footage was sent directly tothe Air Technical Intelligence Center (ATIC)for analysis. Most of the photographs and films, however, have still not been made public.

One of the best-known related cases is what a pilot photographed while carrying out an intercept mission:photographs of a disc-shaped object—although the Air Force later offered conventional explanations (such as weather balloons or lens reflections), some researchers believe these photographs belong to a larger body of unpublished UFO evidence held by the military.
