🔍 Event details
In June 1965,Gemini 4mission, astronauts James McDivitt (James McDivitt) and Ed White (Ed White) reported seeing, while in orbit, anunidentified objectflying near the capsule.
McDivitt described the object aswhite and cylindrical, with protruding structures resembling a robotic arm or an antenna. He photographed the object with a camera—the first time an astronaut tried to photograph a UFO in space. When the photos came back, however, NASA explained them as possibly aPegasus satellite’s reflection. McDivitt himself never fully accepted this explanation.
This event openedthe tradition of NASA astronauts reporting UFOs—and on later Apollo, Skylab, Space Shuttle, and International Space Station missions, astronauts likewise reported seeing unidentified objects.
